Education & Training

The Centre for Studies in Aging & Health has a proven ability to create, adapt and translate knowledge-to-practice resources suitable for a variety of learners and clinical settings. We are dedicated to ensuring readily accessible educational resources relevant to multiple sectors and topics that can be shared using a variety of web-based tools.

The Education & Training section has learner-focussed educational resources and links about the care of the elderly for health professional students, including medical, nursing and allied health. It also contains information useful for graduate health professionals, continuing education and caregivers and other community workers interested in seniors' health as described below under our Gerontological Online Learning & Development [GOLD] Courses which can be accessed through our online learning site, sageducation.

HCP Site Focused LearningCSAH partnered with Queen’s University and other educational institutions to create these libraries of Continuous Learning Resources that support the site specific care of the elderly in Primary Care, Hospital Care and Long-term settings.

Sageducation GOLD Courses for PSWs, Individuals & CaregiversThe CSAH Continuing Education GOLD courses for PSWs, Individuals & Caregivers have been developed to support educational initiatives for Personal Support Workers, Trained Volunteers and Family Caregivers. 

Each Course provides 4 lesson modules which take 15 to 20 minutes to complete.


Sageducation GOLD Courses for Health Care ProfessionalsThe CSAH Continuing Education GOLD courses for Health Care Professionals have been developed to support continuing education for health care professionals.

These courses are designed to accommodate the HCP in the workplace, with the option of following our '101' series of condensed introductory courses with the option of following a more in-depth comprehensive coverage of the particular health issue.

Sageducation GOLD Overview Courses for Heath Care ProfessionalsThis series of GOLD Overview courses provides a foundation for understanding, recognizing, assessing and managing health care concerns in the older adult. 

These courses are condense for quick reference as each narrated lesson module takes no more than 15 minutes to review.

Education & Training Navigator

Friday May 29, 2020 at the Ottawa Conference and Event Centre, is a 1-day course on the practical clinical management of geriatric patients. This program is designed to highlight strategies that primary care physicians, nurse practitioners and primary care allied health team members can utilize to improve the quality of life of their patients. April 18 - 20, 2020 at the Toronto Rehabilitation Institute. This workshop is designed for healthcare providers working in oncology or palliative care settings. The workshop will begin by introducing CALM concepts and move into more advanced material with an emphasis on skill development. For more information click here.

April 6 - May 3, 2020 this 4 week online workshop aims to help participants develop competence in providing LGBTQ affirming care to older adult clients. Through engagement with case studies, popular media, short readings, and Q&A sessions, you will be prompted to reflect upon your existing practice and experience, gain familiarity with the LGBTQ communities you serve, and develop a knowledge base and tools that will enable participants to better provide affirming care across practice settings. March 30-31, 2020 from 8am to 4pm at the 1026 Baseline Rd. Ottawa. This 2 day education series focuses on clinical topics related to the provision of care to older adults including sessions on dementia, delirium, depression, mobility, falls, capacity and living with risk.  To learn more or to register click here.

Bonefit is an evidence-informed exercise training workshop, designed for healthcare professionals and exercise specialists to provide training on the most appropriate, safe and effective methods to prescribe and progress exercise for people with osteoporosis.
